The Cherries

Formed in 1899 as Boscombe St. John’s Institute F.C., the club adopted their current name in 1972. The Cherries play in the Premier League since the 2015-16 season. They won the second and third tiers of English football once, the Football League Trophy once and the Football League Third Division South Cup. The crest of AFC Bournemouth features black stripes to reflect shirts worn by players past and present for more than 40 years together with gold detail to signify the recent succes. It also contains the silhouette of Dickie Dowsett, the club’s former striker and commercial manager.
