ACF Fiorentina was founded by a merger between CS Firenze and PG Libertas in 1926 and refounded in 2002 following bankruptcy. Fiorentina become the first Italian club to win a European trophy in 1961. Since 1931 the club plays it matches at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, a masterpiece of 1930s architecture. The stadium has used several names over the years and has undergone several renovations. The club went bankrupt in 2002, started out again in fourth division and then gained promotion back into Serie A in just two years time. Rivals of ACF Fiorentina are Juventus FC. The club’s ties with Florence and its glorious past are represented in their crest by a red lily. The iconic Viola colour – instantly recognised by those who love Florence and Fiorentina – is also a central feature in the club’s logo.
