Club History: Dundee Football Club, known as “The Dee,” has been a cornerstone of Scottish football since its founding in 1893. Formed through the merger of Dundee East End and Dundee Our Boys, the club joined the Scottish Football League and established itself as a key player in the nation’s sporting history. Located on the same street as their city rivals Dundee United, Dundee FC is part of one of football’s closest and most unique rivalries. The “Dundee Derby” is a highlight of the Scottish football calendar, fiercely contested yet remarkably amicable compared to other derbies like the Old Firm. Dundee FC has faced significant challenges over the years, including a financial crisis in 2003 that brought the club to the brink of collapse. With debts of £23 million, the club entered administration but managed to survive by selling their stadium. In 2012, Dundee gained promotion to the Scottish Premier League following the financial collapse of Rangers but returned to the second tier after one season.
Crest: In 1952 the history of Dundee FC’s badge reflects its evolving identity. From 1955 a simplified “DFC” badge became the club’s enduring symbol. Variations included a circular design and a monogram, with a return to the classic “DFC” in 1987. In 2008 Dundee FC returned to their iconic 1955 badge. In 2024 a refreshed version of the classic crest was introduced, combining tradition with modernity.
