Cegeka Arena
The Cegeka Arena is located in Genk, Belgium and is the stadium of football club KRC Genk. With 23,718 seats, it is the fourth largest stadium in Belgium. From 2007 to 2016, the stadium was known as Cristal Arena. Before that, the stadium was called the Fenixstadion. The current Cegeka Arena is located on the same site as the former stadium of Thor Waterschei, the André Dumont Stadium. After the merger of Thor Waterschei with KFC Winterslag, the new merger club KRC Genk initially played in the former stadium of Winterslag (stadium Noordlaan, now demolished). Meanwhile, a modern main stand was built in the André Dumont Stadium. When the stadium came back into use two years later, it was renamed Thyl Gheyselinckstadion, after the manager who brought about the merger between the two Genk clubs, but was also responsible for the completion and closure of the Limburg mines. This name has long been the subject of criticism from many fans, including many ex-miners.
